Yamaha MGP24X A Mixer Analogico
MGP24X A is a hybrid mixing console that pairs a professional analogue signal path with targeted digital processing. It offers 24 line inputs (16 mono, 4 stereo) and 16 microphone inputs with switchable 48 V phantom power and a 100 Hz high-pass filter on each channel. Discrete class-A D-PRE preamps, VCM-based X-pressive EQ and 1-Knob Compressors shape the sound, while dual effects engines add REV-X reverb and 16 SPX programs. A USB port records and plays back WAV and MP3 files directly, without a computer.
Combining a professional analogue mixing engine with selected digital processing, MGP24X A targets live sound, fixed installations and houses of worship that need premium audio quality without moving to a fully digital workflow. The console handles 24 line inputs, of which 16 are mono and 4 are stereo, and 16 of these channels carry microphone inputs with individually switchable 48 V phantom power and a dedicated 100 Hz high-pass filter. Signal distribution runs through a stereo bus, 4 group buses and 6 AUX sends, with 2 matrix outputs available for zone feeds or delay lines.
Discrete D-PRE Preamps
Every microphone channel uses a discrete class-A D-PRE preamplifier built around an inverted Darlington circuit, a design that keeps low frequencies solid without exaggerating them. Measured performance reflects that approach: equivalent input noise sits at -128 dBu, residual output noise at -92 dBu and crosstalk at -74 dB @ 1 kHz. Total harmonic distortion stays at 0.02% across 20 Hz - 20 kHz @ +14 dBu, while frequency response holds within +0.5/-1.0 dB over the same range.
X-pressive EQ
Channel equalisation is derived from Yamaha VCM (Virtual Circuit Modeling) technology, which emulates the behaviour of analogue circuit components rather than applying generic filter curves. Each band offers up to 15 dB of cut or boost, with high shelving at 8 kHz, low shelving at 125 Hz and a peaking midband that sweeps from 250 Hz to 5 kHz on mono channels and sits at 2.5 kHz on stereo channels.
One-Knob Compression
Channels 9 - 16 include Yamaha 1-Knob Compressors, which condense threshold, ratio, attack, release and make-up gain into a single control with a matched LED indicator. Compressor position can be set pre-fader or post-fader from the COMP menu, so the same circuit works for controlling a vocal under the fader or for gluing a submix after it.
Dual Effects Engines
Two independent digital processors run in parallel. FX1 hosts the REV-X reverb algorithm with 8 programs and editable parameters, while FX2 provides 16 SPX programs covering delay, modulation and ambience. AUX5 and AUX6 switch over to FX1 and FX2 sends, and an FX-to-FX blend allows one processor to feed the other for layered effect chains.
Stereo Hybrid Channels
Two stereo channels are routed through onboard DSP that adds two automatic functions. Priority Ducker lowers the level of background music the moment a speech or announcement signal is detected on the priority channel, then restores it afterwards. Leveler continuously compensates for volume differences between playback tracks, which keeps a playlist of mixed-source material consistent without manual riding.
Master Bus Processing
The stereo bus carries its own dynamics and equalisation stage. Graphic equalisation switches between a 9-band Flex EQ mode, where each band can be positioned freely, and a fixed 14-band mode for conventional room correction. A multi-band compressor follows, adding frequency-selective control over the finished mix before it reaches the outputs.
USB Recording and Playback
A USB port on the top panel records the stereo mix directly to a USB storage device and plays back WAV or MP3 files without an external computer or interface. Recording source and playback destination are assignable, so the same port serves both documentation of a live event and playback of intro music or backing tracks.
Comprehensive Connectivity
Insert points are provided on all 16 mono input channels and on the stereo output for external dynamics or effects. Stereo and mono outputs plus all 6 AUX sends use balanced XLR connectors at +4 dBu nominal with +24 dBu of headroom, while group outputs, matrix outputs and the monitor output use impedance-balanced jacks. A dedicated talkback input and a phones output delivering 75 mW into 40 Ohm complete the panel.
Road-Ready Construction
The chassis is impact-resistant powder-coated metal, dimensioned at 819 x 565 x 169 mm with a net weight of 15.5 kg. An internal universal power supply accepts 100 - 240 V at 50/60 Hz and draws a maximum of 86 W, which removes the need for external adapters and keeps operation stable in venues with unreliable mains voltage.
