Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor — Cut Through the Noise

The Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor is a compact stompbox that eliminates hum, hiss, and buzz from guitar and bass signal chains without dulling the player's natural attack. Sensitive analog circuitry silences noise smoothly, avoiding the choppy artifacts of conventional noise gates. This model is the right choice for guitarists and bassists running high-gain rigs who need a clean, professional signal between notes.

Send/Return Loop and VCA Detection Circuit

A dedicated Send and Return loop lets noisy gain pedals sit inside the gate while detection stays locked to the clean guitar signal at the input. An advanced VCA combined with high-speed envelope-detecting circuits suppresses noise while retaining playing feel and natural note decay. Toggle between Reduction and Mute with the Mode switch.

Threshold, Decay, and Mode — Shape the Gate

Shaping the noise gate is easy thanks to two knobs and a mode selector that offer precise control over how the NS-2 reacts to your playing dynamics.

• Threshold: variable level — sets the signal floor at which the gate closes
• Decay: variable time — controls fade-out speed after the signal drops below threshold
• Mode selection gives you a choice between continuous suppression for everyday playing or full signal muting for silent tuning.

Send/Return Loop — Isolated Detection

The Send and Return jacks form an isolated sub-loop so the NS-2 detects the clean guitar signal while suppressing noise from any pedals placed inside the loop.

• Input / Output: 6.3 mm TS jacks — standard instrument-level connections
• Patch your gain pedals into the Send/Return jacks to keep their noise under control without affecting your clean tone.
• DC OUT: 9V DC output jack — daisy-chains power to other Boss compact pedals via PCS-20A cable

Buffered Bypass and Pedalboard Build

Buffered bypass preserves signal integrity across long cable runs, rather than using true bypass switching. Power is supplied by a 9V battery or any Boss PSA-series adaptor.

• Bypass: Buffered — maintains signal level across long cable runs
• Power Supply: 9V battery or PSA-series adaptor, 25 mA
• The compact 73 × 129 × 59 mm chassis fits standard pedalboards, and at 415 g, the pedal is roadworthy and durable.
